Pig Pregnancy scanning Service

At Higher Chylasson Farm, we provide a reliable pig pregnancy scanning service for smallholders and breeders, helping you confirm pregnancy early, plan farrowing, and manage your herd with confidence. Delivered by experienced pedigree pig breeders, our service is calm, practical, and welfare focused.

Why pregnancy Scanning is Useful

Pig pregnancy scanning provides early, reliable information that allows you to plan ahead and manage your herd more efficiently, while supporting good welfare and cost-effective breeding decisions.

Key benefits include:

Early pregnancy confirmation
Know whether a sow or gilt is in pig before committing to full gestation feeding and housing.

Identify empty sows sooner
Detect non-pregnant animals early, allowing timely re-service or management changes.

Improved farrowing planning
Helps you plan housing, staffing, and supervision well in advance of farrowing.

Reduced feed and housing costs
Avoid unnecessary feeding and space use for animals that are not in pig.

Better welfare outcomes
Supports appropriate feeding levels and management tailored to the animal’s actual needs.

Confidence for smallholders
Particularly valuable where experience is limited or herd numbers are small.

Pregnancy scanning gives you clarity and peace of mind, allowing informed decisions at an early stage of the breeding cycle.

Our Approach

We take a practical, stockman-led approach to scanning. Animals are handled quietly and with patience, ensuring the process is as stress-free as possible.

While scanning provides valuable information, we are always honest about the limitations of doppler technology and will explain results clearly, particularly where outcomes are inconclusive or early-stage.

Where appropriate, we are happy to discuss:

Timing of scanning

Breeding records

Repeat scanning if required

General breeding management advice

Welfare & Biosecurity

Animal welfare is central to everything we do at Higher Chylasson Farm.

Scanning is non-invasive

No sedation or restraint beyond normal handling

Equipment is cleaned between farms

Biosecurity measures are followed at all times

If animals appear unwell or unsuitable for scanning, this will be discussed before proceeding.

Locations Covered

We are based in Cornwall and cover Both Cornwall and Devon and provide scanning services locally and within surrounding areas.

Group bookings in the same area on the same day may be possible — please contact us to discuss availability.

Cornwall Scanning Service

Our pig pregnancy scanning service is available across Cornwall with regular appointment availability.

Devon Scanning Service

We also offer pig pregnancy scanning in Devon, with visits arranged on select dates each month.
To minimise unnecessary travel and keep costs fair for everyone, Devon appointments are grouped by area and date.

If you are located in Devon, please contact us to register your interest. We will then confirm available scanning dates once a suitable route or group booking has been arranged.

Enquire & Book

In some situations, we ask customers to enquire first rather than booking immediately. This helps ensure the service is carried out at the right time, in the right area, and with the best outcome for your animals.
