Pedigree pigs, bred with purpose
Higher Chylasson Farm is a family-run pedigree pig farm based in Cornwall, built on strong values, shared experience, and a genuine commitment to traditional British pig breeds.
Our journey with pigs has been shaped over more than five years through hands-on breeding, regular attendance at agricultural shows, involvement in breeder clubs and AGMs, and by building trusted relationships with pig breeders across the country. These connections have broadened our understanding, challenged our thinking, and helped shape the standards we now work to.
Today, Higher Chylasson Farm operates as a working pedigree enterprise where welfare, genetics, and good stockmanship come first — and where every decision is made with both the present and the future of native breeds in mind.

Our approach
Our approach is rooted in experience, observation, and a willingness to learn from those who have been breeding pigs successfully for decades.
We operate a low-stress, outdoor system that allows pigs to express natural behaviours while being carefully managed for health, temperament, and productivity. Breeding decisions are guided by sound genetics, breed standards, and practical knowledge gained through continual engagement with other pedigree breeders and the wider pig community.
Good stockmanship goes beyond daily care. It includes discipline around biosecurity, traceability, and movement control, particularly when working with pedigree livestock.
All our pigs are:
Pedigree and fully traceable
Outdoor-reared with welfare at the core
Selected for temperament, structure, and longevity
Managed with strict biosecurity and detailed record-keeping
By maintaining clear breeding records, controlled introductions, and sensible movement practices, we reduce unnecessary risk and protect both our own herd and those we work with.
Pedigree, conservation & Biosecurity
The conservation of traditional British pig breeds is about more than preserving appearance or heritage — it is about maintaining healthy, resilient populations for the future.
When pedigree conservation is done properly, it strengthens biosecurity rather than compromising it. Known bloodlines, accurate records, and responsible breeding practices allow health risks to be identified, traced, and managed effectively.
Disease outbreaks spread most easily where movements are uncontrolled, records are poor, and stock is sourced without clear knowledge of background or health status.
By working within established pedigree frameworks and maintaining close relationships with trusted breeders across the UK, we are able to source, introduce, and breed stock responsibly — safeguarding both our own herd and the wider pig population.
Good conservation, strong biosecurity, and high welfare are not separate principles. When done well, they support and reinforce one another.

The People behind the pigs
Higher Chylasson Farm is, at its heart, a family-run pedigree pig farm.
Behind the pigs is a close-knit family team, where ideas are shared freely, questioned thoroughly, and often debated — sometimes with raised eyebrows and the odd eye-roll — before being fully supported once a decision is made.
This balance of enthusiasm, experience, and honest conversation shapes how the farm is run day to day. It ensures that new ideas are challenged, welfare and biosecurity are never compromised, and every step forward is taken with care, confidence, and collective backing.
It is this family dynamic — built on trust, support, and shared responsibility — that underpins everything we do at Higher Chylasson Farm.

Supporting the next Generation
Supporting the next generation of pig keepers is central to the ethos of Higher Chylasson Farm.
In 2024, Grace was given the opportunity to select a native pig breed to take responsibility for, choosing the Gloucestershire Old Spot. Her success in the show ring, including winning Champion Young Handler at the Royal Cornwall Show, marked the beginning of her own breeding journey.
This led to the establishment of her British Pig Association–registered herd, Bramble Ridge, run alongside the Higher Chylasson Farm herds.
By giving responsibility early and backing it with guidance, record-keeping, and breed knowledge, we believe good stockmanship and biosecurity habits are learned from the start — ensuring the long-term future of pedigree pig breeding.

Experience & involvement
Our involvement in pigs extends well beyond our own farm gate.
Over the past five years, Daniel has built strong relationships within the pig world through regular attendance at agricultural shows, active involvement with breeder clubs and AGMs, and working alongside experienced pig breeders across the country.
Daniel plays an active role within the pig section at Stithians Show and regularly exhibits pigs at local and county-level agricultural events.
These relationships and ongoing discussions help maintain shared standards around health, biosecurity, and responsible breeding across the pedigree pig community, strengthening both our own work and the wider industry.
Beyond breeding
Alongside pedigree breeding, Higher Chylasson Farm offers a range of practical services built on real-world experience:
Boar hire
Pig pregnancy scanning using Doppler technology
Advice and support for new and established pig keepers
All services are delivered with welfare, traceability, and sensible biosecurity at the forefront, reflecting the same standards we apply within our own pedigree herds.

Looking ahead
Established in 2021, Higher Chylasson Farm continues to grow as a family-run pedigree pig enterprise shaped by experience, collaboration, and a clear sense of purpose.
Looking ahead, our focus remains on breeding quality pedigree pigs, protecting and promoting native British breeds, strengthening bloodlines through informed and responsible breeding, and supporting the next generation through genuine opportunity and education.
As disease pressures and biosecurity challenges continue to shape livestock farming, we believe that well-managed pedigree breeding — grounded in traceability, collaboration, and shared standards — will play an increasingly important role in safeguarding both traditional breeds and the wider pig industry.
With strong family foundations and connections built across the pig community nationwide, Higher Chylasson Farm is committed to playing its part in the future of British pedigree pig breeding — balancing ambition with experience, and progress with respect for tradition.
